With Turnitin 2.0 you use the Canvas Tools built in when you use Turnitin. Rubrics and Speedgrader.

No, you do not need to re-do each semester. You can copy the rubrics from course to course.

i have made assignments and i click on turn it in the palgairism review and I do not get all that you showed, the things to click on do not appear. all i get is when the students can see it

I prefer Speed Grader as well. I have to use Trademark at CSUSM, but prefer the Canvas rubrics and grading program.

What percentage is acceptable?

I am referring to the percentage that Turnitin provides

It rates papers as green, yellow or red, depending on the percentage, but when you look you’ll see that it might be a bibliographic entry that wasn’t necessarily copied, but just is the standard way to cite that source.

It also might be quotation marks missing, although the person is clearly trying to cite a source.

Do students get those notifications by default, or do they have to turn on the setting for receiving notifications?

Some of mine seem to get it, others don’t and I’m not clear on why.

So, you have to look at it. If there are whole paragraphs that are from another source, word-for-word, that’s obvious plagiarism.

If you are using Camtasia and want to upload the media content, do you still have to render it and produce the video first?

50% seems really high to me

Beth: I think yes, you would have to save the Camtasia project as a MP4 or video file first before uploading to Canvas.

Camtasia is probably overkill for a simple video comment feedback, though! :)

I agree. I look deeply even with 15% to see what exactly is the issue

Please repeat audience questions so we can all hear...

If you look it up, the probability that they came up with 11 consecutive words that were the same as someone else’s is miniscule.

By default students are subscribed, however once they log on and take a class they may have changed the notifications. Encourage them to check notifications and turn on the ones they are interested in.

I have had that problem.

The students need to click on “View Feedback” I think.

Speedgrader Annotations should display in the Canvas App. Have the student reach out to Canvas Support or the Student Helpdesk

Ah yes --- Tell your students to click View Feedback

Then they will see your little blue dots or highlights or whatever speed-reader tool you used to leave feedback.

And it is not as easy to figure out on a phone. Tell them to look at the tabs across the top of their screen.

I have used these preset comments as well as ones I wrote myself. Love it.

But for uploading individual student feedback you probably would just send the MP4 directly into Canvas and not use 3CMedia

To confirm, to access existing GradeMark and Turnitin rubrics we must create our assignments using the external tool method, not the new 2.0 integrated Turnitin right?

Yes you would want to keep those private.

I use it because I just revise or update one doc instead of all the individual assignments in all the sections at all the colleges.

Louisa, it depends

If it’s got just a little info and just for one class, I wouldn’t bother Google doc-ing. But if it’s got lots of info and you are using it across multiple classes, Google doc is worth a thought

Especially if it’s something you expect you might want to change and it won’t be fixed forever

For me, like Jim says, it depends. I like the pages on Canvas because I have the options for some pretty fun visuals. Tabs, grids, buttons, etc. But for assignments with prompts, where there will be only text, I just drop the Google doc in. Easier to format and easy upkeep/revision/editing.

If I put it in as a file, the student has the option of downloading that file for use offline (studying). Do they have that option with a pdf I put on Google drive?

One Drive / Office 365 integration is coming soon. We will be starting the testing this semester between Canvas and AIS.

We are not ready to release it yet, but we suspect by next semester.

Also helpful if you accidentally deleted content using the Canvas editor. It happens to all of us so it is nice to know you can go back to that change before you saved.

If I want to change a page, I sometimes duplicate it, thus saving the original, in case I need to trash the changes I saved. Kind of like a "Save As".

I like to change my homepage on a weekly basis so that students have a sort of weekly announcement of each module and assignments for the week.

Students Opt in to Notifications. The instructor can not force notifiations or supress the notifications. Students are in control of how much or how little they are notified.

Email from your SURF roster will send directly to the student's email address they used to register at the college. A great way to notify students prior to the semester starting.

Or if you want to force the email out to the student's email address.

Jim, I just did a test. The pages now have a box that can be checked. “Add to student to do.” If you check the box, a date bar opens and then there is a due date. Super cool!
