I have a red-x student who got dropped for non-vaxxed status, but seems to have immediately re-added. (She is showing a new enrollment date of 1/18.) Any idea what is going on there? Should I assume it is in process?
Lynne Miller
35:32
Will all deadlines for vaccination and clearance be pushed back, given our delayed return to campus?
Janelle West
35:58
@Lesley -- I have the same issue with 2 students in my class as well. Curious....
Nick (he/him/his) Mortaloni
36:29
@Lesley - Great question. Students are still able to re-add into classes until Sunday before the class, which is when they will need an add code. They may have woken up and just submitted. If they have not submitted anything, they will be dropped again tonight.
Maria Huerta (she/her/hers)
36:30
@Leslie - Students are being dropped if they do not submit vaccine or exemption requirement. Students have readded themselves but will be dropped if documentation is not submitted. If the student readded themselves yesterday and have not submitted documentation as of today, they will be dropped again today
Darlene Burke (she/her)
36:50
Please define weekly. Is it within the previous 7 days of an on-campus course?
Lesley Doig
36:54
Thanks!
Nick (he/him/his) Mortaloni
37:29
@Darlene - Yes, every 7 days. Most students pick a day per week and test every week on the same day. It needs to be before their first class of the week.
Wendy (she/her) Stewart
37:33
@Lynne, we are not delaying the need to be cleared to be on campus for students in an on ground class, even with classes being remote through February 21st, as we still need to process drops at the beginning of the semester before census
Robin Allyn (she/her/hers)
37:45
They won't have the zoom link to crash...
Leah Cluff
37:55
If a student wants an add code, how can we tell if they are cleared before giving it to them, since we aren’t on campus?
Wendy (she/her) Stewart
38:06
@Lynne, we also want to make sure that students still need to meet this requirement when we resume classes in February versus facing having to be dropped from a course after census when we begin meeting in person again
Nick (he/him/his) Mortaloni
38:08
@Leah - We will review that in the next couple slides.
Wendy (she/her) Stewart
38:56
@Leah, I recommend providing an add code to a student to add as you always would but advise the student that they will be dropped if they are not cleared to be on campus
Leah Cluff
39:16
@Wendy, thanks!
Eric Robertson (he/him/his)
39:38
Is the green check mark on SURF a different green check mark than the green check mark given after the at home wellness form in the app that gives a green check “campus pass”? Do students need to do the at home wellness form in the app daily?
Nick (he/him/his) Mortaloni
40:01
@Leah - They can also go on their SURF, click on their COVID-19 tile, and take a screen shot for you.
Scott Fallstrom
42:35
The graphic with types of courses shows a name (we use) and then what students see. Students don't see the word "hybrid" or "Hyflex" in SURF when they are picking courses. If you aren't clear on all of the details we often know, it is not easy to find.
Scott Fallstrom
43:52
@Eric - yes... great question. It sounds like we need to do both the daily check-in AND the SURF check. Perhaps that can be clarified. Are we still requiring the daily check so those with self-reported symptoms are not coming to class?
Ruben Gomez
44:24
So for the online courses (synchronous, asynchronous and zoom), students showing a red "x" on the SURF can still be allowed to be enrolled and added or do they need to be cleared nonetheless?
Catherine Walker
44:43
If a student is vaccinated will they always have a green check on the roster, even if they test positive for COVID?
Nick (he/him/his) Mortaloni
45:07
@Ruben - For classes who are immediately on campus, or eventually on campus, they need to be cleared to be on campus. That would give them a green check mark.
Eric Robertson (he/him/his)
45:08
I’m sure we will discuss this, but if we are talking about the app- what responsibilities do we have for students scanning the contact tracing QR codes?
Wendy (she/her) Stewart
45:20
@Catherine, the green check mark is connected to the student being cleared to be on campus, not if the student has tested positive or is positive for COVID
Nick (he/him/his) Mortaloni
45:35
@Catherine - Yes, if they are vaccinated, they will show as green. If they test positive, our contact tracing team will give them guidance on when they can return to campus.
Scott Fallstrom
46:09
This is not clear.
Scott Fallstrom
46:25
Where do they report symptoms if they are already cleared in SURF?
Rhonda Welch Scalco
47:16
Is there a Canvas page that we can access from the Commons with some of this great info for students that we can pop into our course?
Wendy (she/her) Stewart
48:15
@Rhonda, the MiraCosta.edu/covid page contains a lot of the information that we are sharing with links that specify info for students and this presentation will also be recorded
Nick (he/him/his) Mortaloni
48:33
@Scott - We can make sure to answer the question live, if that is easier. In the meantime, symptoms are reported using the Safe (MiraCosta) App. Students are encouraged to use the daily symptom screening and QR codes.
Scott Fallstrom
49:03
encouraged. So faculty do not NEED to check that. Only check SURF. ???
Nick (he/him/his) Mortaloni
50:48
Yes, the most important thing for faculty to do is ensure they are cleared to be on campus via their roster. Daily symptom screening and use of QR codes are encouraged. As was shared in the faculty workshop on Friday, many faculty model the behavior in the first two weeks by doing it with students.
Darlene Burke (she/her)
52:29
If the student had a negative test the morning of the class, should the student be showing me change of status via his phone?
Lynne Miller
52:51
There were many nice, practical tips shared in last Friday's return-to-campus workshop. A link to the video is posted on the Flex schedule.
Nick (he/him/his) Mortaloni
53:20
@Darlene - Exempted students who test negative receive their results via email. And their status will show as cleared within 15 minutes of their negative result.
Darlene Burke (she/her)
54:04
So if I am in the midst of lecturing, the student will be able to show me an e-mail
Denise Stephenson (per/per/pers)
54:44
@Lynne, thanks for that reminder. Here’s a link to the video from the faculty return to campus workshop https://miracosta-edu.zoom.us/rec/share/AI_sn8iGb8s9xg4FDQuyjEYMHpKEr914NWMf-iosiqJ25Iq2HLo-vGOy2NL7ykL_.PrqaaVZyLp4dWy7w
Nick (he/him/his) Mortaloni
55:04
@Darlene - Yes, that is correct. AND, please tell your students to show up early or on time. That is their responsibility as an exempted student.

Has the college yet sent out an email to all on-ground students, letting them know about the change to Zoom?
Alketa (she.her) Wojcik
01:05:26
@Lynne - Yes, a message was sent out yesterday to all students
Wendy (she/her) Stewart
01:05:29
@Lynne, students were sent a notification via email about classes moving to be online through February 21st
Lynne Miller
01:07:44
Strange. I have been in touch with a couple of my students and they haven't yet received anything.
Eric Robertson (he/him/his)
01:08:39
Will there be any signs or individuals on campus for students who don’t receive the emails about the change to Zoom? I’m sure there will be at least a few students who just show up and will be confused.
Alketa (she.her) Wojcik
01:08:43
Sometimes they have put the MCC emails in the junk folder or we do not have their current email
Wendy (she/her) Stewart
01:09:20
Student Services is open with staff available to talk to students who come to campus next week
Alketa (she.her) Wojcik
01:09:24
@Eric - We will have help huts for he first week of classes wit a list of courses to help students find out whether their class is in person or online
Leigh Cotnoir (she, her, hers)
01:09:46
Is there some reason there isn’t a third database flag that would help faculty know if they are cleared with exemption vs. not-cleared for no documentation approval? That would be so helpful.
Alketa (she.her) Wojcik
01:10:07
@Eric - We also encourage faculty to email their students with specific information about their classes
Eric Robertson (he/him/his)
01:10:43
Thank you. Is there a way to know if we have students who have exemptions? It seems like “one more thing” to have to check surf every morning if there are no exceptions in your class.
Jenny Zimmerman
01:10:44
How will the drop in enrollments affect the viability of our classes? Will there be cancellations if our classes are under-enrolled?
Denise Stephenson (per/per/pers)
01:11:05
Could faculty get access to the wording of the email sent campus so that we can communicate as clearly as possible with similar language?

01:11:46
@Denise - Alketa shared a link
Lynne Miller
01:12:27
Can we come to campus and use HiFlex classrooms for our Zoom sessions?
Denise Stephenson (per/per/pers)
01:12:35
Got it. Thanks.
Katie Ortiz
01:12:55
I teach a long evening class that will require a mid-class break. If we are leaving the room during the break, do students and myself need to scan the QR code again when exiting/entering?
Karl Cleveland
01:13:22
Is there any possibility that students who were dropped from on-campus classes beginning 1/24 will be able to obtain clearance and re-enroll prior to the start of the class? Or, has enrollment functionally closed for all students who wished to take an on-campus class (that is not late start)?
Nick (he/him/his) Mortaloni
01:13:30
@Leigh - I see your question and can answer it live.
Leigh Cotnoir (she, her, hers)
01:13:34
I also advised the MAT faculty to let their students know today when they expected their Canvas class(es) would become visible to students so they wouldn’t be confused, especially since so many classes are being dropped.
Alketa (she.her) Wojcik
01:14:21
@Karl, Yes, we are already seeing students re-enrolling and right now, a group of us are working on clearing the new vaccine submissions that took place between last night and today
Lynne Miller
01:14:59
I gather that Kristen and her team have produced a concise video about the QR codes and daily health check. Could someone provide a link here?
Al (he/him/his) Taccone
01:15:11
I think they may re-enroll up to the census date as usual as long as they are clear.
Wendy (she/her) Stewart
01:16:27
@Lynne, there is step-by-step information for students on how to use the MiraCosta Safe App on the miracosta.edu/covid website under the "Info for Students" link
Lynne Miller

01:18:39
I’m still not exactly clear on the use of the QR codes in the app and our responsibilities for contact tracing.
Scott Fallstrom
01:19:12
@Eric … it was encouraged. Vaccines are critical, symptom checking... not so much.
Eric Robertson (he/him/his)
01:19:13
Follow up is good- we have another meeting. Thanks 👍
