Yes, "Canva" seems related to "Canvas" but the reality is they are two completely different tools. Both very useful though!

Laura, Looks great!!

Thank you so much.

Is Quizlet free or is there a subscription fee?
Laura Paciorek (she/her)
35:30
Quizlet is free
Nancy Thuleen
35:33
I believe Quizlet is free for simple use, small fee if you want more advanced options as a teacher. For student use it's always free.
Laura Paciorek (she/her)
35:41
Yes.

Thank you.

It's very easy to make a Quizlet. It's a way to make a class a little more game-like.
Laura Paciorek (she/her)
36:52
Students can engage with a Quizlet in different ways.

Can one disable the to do list? Make it disappear for them?
Lauren McFall
38:43
To make a to do list disappear for your course, you have to make sure your assignments/discussions don't have a due date... but that also means, you can't easily see when someone submits something late. Not necessarily bad.
Laura Paciorek (she/her)
39:08
As a student, I love the to-do list.
Nancy Thuleen
39:25
The To-Do list is alphabetical/numerical if things have the same due date, so I make sure to use "Step 1” etc.
Lauren McFall
40:05
Or... you can make the due date at slightly different times... that's what I did... it's a bit of a pain... 11:59, 11:58, 11:57... etc
Gabriela Muller
40:47
Thanks!

My child had emojis in her Canvas class to do lists last year and those were great.

visual breaks are good :)

yes
Jim Julius (he/him)
42:44
@Gabriela, the To-Do list is really a student-facing feature. So an instructor can't really "get rid of it" - you can only set up your Canvas materials so they don't show up on the To-Do list - if that's your design choice.
Gabriela Muller
44:24
Got it 🙂
Gabriela Muller
45:45
Knowing that some students jump into the course through the to do list explains a few things I've puzzled about lol…

yeah ... I try to advise students who attend the Student Online Academic Readiness workshop to NOT use the to-do list as their primary navigation.
Gabriela Muller
47:32
I'll mention it in my welcome video 🙂
Jim Julius (he/him)
48:05
Yeah, I think demoing your recommendations for how to navigate through your course in a welcome video is a great antidote, too!
Lauren McFall
49:10
this reminds me so much of home edit... how do you know if you're in the right course? the color is a good indicator!
