Can we review how to make the url link pop up in a new tab so we don’t have to hit the back button on the browser to get back to Canvas?

02:07:13
When you add a link to an image.

02:07:27
First, when you are in the RCE (Rich Content Editor) of the page of content you are working on, you can highlight the link and then press Ctrl + K on your keyboard. This will display an "Insert link" box with a drop-down list next to the "Target" field. Instead of "None", select "New window", and then click the "Ok" button.

02:08:17
Here is a community guide https://community.canvaslms.com/thread/26751-hyperlinks-opening-in-a-new-window

02:09:00
Control K worked. It didn’t with an image.

02:09:36
Yes, the default on external links are now new window in anvas

02:09:42
Canvas . They made that change recently

02:09:55
The default for images to link is none. The default for text linked is new tab.

02:10:16
Yes on text

02:10:52
Internal to Canvas pages still open on top -- so if you want a Canvas domain page to open in a new window, you need to use that extra step.

02:11:42
fingers crossed

02:11:45
:=)

02:12:10
So control K fixes the inconsistency with images, that’s what I was saying.

02:12:22
Yes Sean, thanks!

02:16:16
Is there a course builder feature in Canvas? This feature allows us to create categories/ build the course using place holders and these can then be populated later with content. I believe something like other LMS such as D2L etc.

02:18:29
Also can the home page greeting be personlised to show the individual student's first or last name (according to how we set the greeting) when a student logs in instead of the general 'hello everyone'? Just curious about this feature.

02:18:33
Thanks

02:20:40
In the commons you can download Templates.

02:21:04
I create a bunch of unpublished pages and assignments as an outline when I'm starting to build a course.

02:21:33
that faculty have created. Great for ideas.Warning don't import to your active course, request a sandbox to import from.

02:21:44
Great. Thanks, Got it.

02:23:06
Canvas does not have an undo for importing from Commons, so yes ask for a sandbox.

02:23:28
email : kturpin@miracosta.edu

02:24:03
LOL I will update it now

02:24:29
not that I am aware of

02:24:37
So would a sandbox be like a Master shell? while the active one is a live shell?

02:24:55
Yes

02:24:57
Nadia, yes it could be

02:25:23
Thanks!

02:25:34
Or the sandbox can just be a place with lots of different experimentation and collection of resources that might apply to several different courses, totally up to you

02:26:02
got it!

02:40:29
is there a way to see which students have viewed the course yet?

02:40:58
you just answered my question

02:41:00
Yes, Laura - as Sean is talking about

02:41:01
Is there any way to see what students see on the dashboard -- before they enter the course? I've found that students sometimes don't even click the course card, since there apparently is a 'to-do' list on the dashboard itself, and they just do what's listed there and miss all of the course content ...

02:42:34
Student View

02:42:47
Student view only shows inside the course, though. Not the dashboard.

02:43:11
Example: jjulius-student

02:43:22
Okay, yes. I don't know my 'student' password, but I know it exists.

02:43:30
760-795-6850 employee helpdesk can assist you with the password

02:44:16
Thanks.

02:47:50
Whew

02:56:16
Does the quiz show up in the syllabus?

02:57:15
(unpublished)

02:57:50
Students don't see the unpublished quizzes, as far as I know.

02:57:54
right, Nancy

02:58:15
unpublished are not seen by students

03:01:35
Are there question banks already available to import into Canvas to make quizzes or do we have to make them from Scratch?

03:03:38
Yes depends on your publisher Sean

03:03:54
Some faculty with share Canvas quizzes as well.

03:04:06
wll share

03:04:39
So contact publisher

03:04:51
Yes, and you can also search Canvas Commons

03:04:58
Or is there a way to search through Canvas?

03:05:04
Ok

03:05:07
Only through commons

03:05:12
Canvas wouldn’t likely have publisher testbanks

03:05:24
Only ones created and shared by other faculty

03:08:19
It's always useful to remind students that those scores that they enter are NOT real -- I've had many students think they could sneakily 'change' their own grades!

03:10:03
Thank you!!

03:10:55
Thank you for walking us through some really neat features of Canvas!

03:11:51
thank you!

03:11:58
Thank you!

03:12:01
Thanks!
