If you add more in the description box, do the students see it?
Karen Turpin
15:10
Yes, I believe the students will see the description box when they click on the video
Kris Coats
15:17
thanks
Nancy Thuleen
18:51
Do the videos in studio count against our course file size quota?
Karen Turpin
19:03
No, they do not. They are separate.
Nancy Thuleen
19:24
Ah good. MiraCosta is generous, but other colleges have much smaller quotas which I’m struggling with! 🙂
Karen Turpin
19:27
Studio is it's own media server that is integrated in Canvas.
Maha Gebara
23:05
How did you get to annotate?
Kris Coats
23:08
This is a great workshop Nadia- so many things I didn’t know how to do
Katy Bailey
26:42
These overlays will only be there for that selected amount of time in the video, right?
Cyndi Darlington
27:49
Did you cover how to drop a title card or artwork in?
Benjamin Rolland
27:56
If you choose to import a video from another streaming service, will you need to recaption it? Is there a way to automate the process?
Karen Turpin
30:06
When you are moving from another streaming server, you will first need to download the video file. You will also have to download the caption file. Then you can upload the video file, and then the caption file to Studio
Karen Turpin
30:53
So no need to re-do the captions. Although it will not be automatic. However it is worth it to move to CAnvas Studio as we do not have commercials like YouTube does.
Katy Bailey
31:24
Since videos from other sites can be relatively easily embedded into Canvas pages, assignments, etc, what is the advantage of uploading one of those videos into Studio?
Karen Turpin
32:14
Since videos are on our own server you won't have to worry that service will go away. I've had instructors have their YouTube accounts cancelled and all the videos were gone - yikes.
Benjamin Rolland
32:36
Thank you
Katy Bailey
32:37
Ah wow okay good point!
Karen Turpin
32:38
Also unlimited video storage with us.
Karen Turpin
32:58
For class content of course. :=)
Benjamin Rolland
33:01
Does the recording service on Studio also provide an auto caption service or is that done after recording the video?
Nancy Thuleen
33:02
I had been using 3C to re-caption some YouTube videos that did not have captions. Would you recommend using Studio instead?
Karen Turpin
33:38
Studio has auto captions similar to YouTube. It will auto caption for you. Then you just edit the captions to make them perfect.
Benjamin Rolland
33:52
Excellent
Chris Gabler
34:02
Very useful tips on the use of the app.
Maha Gebara
34:18
can you add chapters or tags? So that there are different sections?
Karen Turpin
34:21
Yes, I'd recommend Studio. WIth 3C if you have the caption file, be sure to download that in addition to the video file when you move the content over.
Kris Coats
34:58
Can you duplicate a video and then play with the tools and keep the original intact in case you irreparably damage the original video?
Karen Turpin
35:12
Good question Maha - Let's ask Nadia in a few moments.
Nancy Thuleen
35:26
I assume Studio videos/links work fine when course copying and importing for the next semester?
Karen Turpin
35:28
Yes, you sure can Kris. It's a good idea to make a copy.
Conrad Hirano
35:56
Can you undo the edits?
Karen Turpin
36:25
Yes, they sure do. Works great with the copy as the videos are on the single streaming server to they references to them copy
Larry (he/him/his) Mullins
36:37
Are these editing abilities not available on Mac?
Syndee Wood (she, her, hers)
38:18
Wow, I didn’t realize I could edit the captions. That’s great news. Thanks, Karen!

Kris Coats
40:57
If you make a video that you want to use in other courses, if it doesn’t reference a section, you could just change the thumbnail right?
Cyndi Darlington
41:10
Replying to "Are these editing ab..."@larry I use it on Mac but it will not record video on Safari browser (at least not as recent as last semester)
Karen Turpin
41:49
You could, or if the video is more generic titled you can just select the video from Studio in your other class.
Larry (he/him/his) Mullins

Kris Coats

Replying to "Are these editing ab..."(And you should always review the captions- it can be very weird if you don’t check)
Nancy Thuleen
44:36
For those of us who teach at several different colleges - I assume Studio files are local to MiraCosta only, and we’d have to recreate/import them at each of our other college Canvas sites?
Karen Turpin
45:33
If you want the advanced features of Studio yes you will need to download and upload to their Canvas Server. However if you don't want those advanced features(like quizzes) you can get the public URL and post that in your other school's LMS.
Karen Turpin
45:45
Canvas Studio Server
Nancy Thuleen
46:19
Ah ok, thanks - I would mostly use plain videos anyway, at least right now.
Karen Turpin
46:27
The option in Canvas Studio is : Share Media, then select link, then click Create Public Link.
Karen Turpin
46:50
A public link can be put in another college LMS, or on a website for example.

Curious if you insert a video with no audio. Can you overlay audio to narrate the video in Studio?
Cyndi Darlington
48:07
If I record the video on Zoom can I import into Canvas so I can use the editing software there?
Conrad Hirano
48:36
I was thinking of using Studio to record feedback on assignments
Maha Gebara
